After weeks of speculations, Infors board of directors has confirmed the appointment of former Oracle co-president Charles Phillips. The announcement came less than a month after Phillips stepped down and was immediately replaced by ex-HP chief Mark V. Hurd. Outgoing CEO Jim Schaper welcomes the addition of Phillips to the team, stating that he couldnt think of anyone better to run the company. With Charles Phillips, Infor will benefit from his years of experience, undoubted leadership, vision, and a proven record of high performance.
During his tenure with Oracle, Phillips oversaw a revenue growth of about 300 percent. He was very instrumental in Oracles successful string of acquisitions, where the company was able to get multi-billion dollar companies such as Siebel Systems, BEA Systems, and Hyperion Solutions. Now, he plans to bring his skill set to an applications company with real scale. Due to the success of Oracle, the Charles Phillips Infor tandem will look to apply the same acquisition strategy. Since 2002, Infor has been trying to run after smaller vendors that have not been noticed by organizations such as IBM, Oracle, and SAP. With Phillips at the helm, Infor may become more aggressive in acquiring companies and boosting its own portfolio.
This early, Infor appears to be making waves in the business software industry. Under their new chief, they have already released their new-generation set of applications with a common interface. They have sounded off their intentions of acquiring more accounts. Charles Phillips Infor move seems to be running smoothly. And the business software industry has taken notice.
